About the Committee
This committee works with the Treasurer to oversee society finances and reporting of finances to the society. The committee performs an advisory role for issues identified by the Treasurer and may provide advice to the Treasurer and the Board on the financial impact and value of various society activities. Each year, new members join the committee as the same number of members rotates off. This committee is chaired by a member serving their third year on the committee. The Chair of the Finance Advisory Committee also serves as a liaison to the Investment Committee.
Member Criteria
Committee membership is open to all BSA membership categories. It is preferable that members of the committee have previous knowledge of handling budgets and balance sheets, however this is not required. Committee members are expected to participate and be engaged in committee activities and have a genuine interest in the mission of the committee.
Time Commitment
This committee has one student as part of its composition. The student representative on this committee will be expected to learn about BSA budget and finances. Previous experience is not necessary, but the position requires an interest the financial management and issues of a scientific society.
Students
At least two meetings per year, one to review and provide advice on the construction of the next year’s budget and one to review financial performance. Members serve three-year terms, except for student members whose terms are for two years.
