About the Committee
Chaired by the BSA Immediate Past President, the Election Committee oversees the BSA election for the BSA Board positions during the first four months of each year. The Committee sends out a call for nominations to the BSA membership. The Executive Director, who is part of BSA staff, provides all nominations to the Committee Chair of the Elections committee, and on occasion the Chair may reach out to obtain additional nominations. The Election Committee follows the BSA Bylaws to prepare a slate of candidates for the election which is presented to the BSA Board for approval prior to holding the election.
Member Criteria
Committee membership is open to all BSA membership categories: emeritus, retired, professional, affiliate, postdoc, student, developing nation. Committees strive for both institutional/organizational and geographic diversity. Committee members are expected to participate and be engaged in committee activities and have a genuine interest in the mission of the committee.
Time Commitment
The bulk of the committee’s work occurs between December and March as nominations for BSA Board positions are received. Committee discussion occurs mostly electronically by email and through one or two conference calls, as needed. Members serve three-year terms, except for student members whose terms are for two years.
Students
This committee has one student as part of its composition. The student representative will be a voting member and is expected to participate fully in all activities of committee.
