About the Committee
This committee is responsible for reviewing applications for the Jeanette Siron Pelton Award which is given in recognition of sustained and creative contributions in plant morphology. (The award defines morphology broadly to include the subcellular, cellular and organismal levels of complexity, and will recognize experimental, comparative, and evolutionary approaches.) Committee members review and score applications in an online portal and discuss the top candidates with the goal of providing a $1000 award to one recipient, plus travel costs up to $1000 to present the special address, the Pelton Lecture, at the following year’s BSA Annual Meeting. This committee is chaired by a member serving their third year on the committee.
Member Criteria
Committee membership is open to all BSA membership categories except students. Members on this must committee are appointed to represent the broadly defined morphological interests of this award. The Committee on Committees will review all applicants for this committee and confer with the current Pelton Award Committee before final committee appointments are made. Members serve three-year terms. Committee members are expected to participate and be engaged in committee activities and have a genuine interest in the mission of the committee.
Time Commitment
The bulk of the committee’s work is spent reviewing proposals in April and May, with final award decisions by end of May. Most discussions occur via email, with the potential for a conference call. Members serve for three years.
Students
This committee does not accept student members.
